Dire orcs are a race of large, heavily mutated orcs featured in the Warcraft series. They are aligned with the Horde, while others are aligned with the Burning Legion and, in the alternate timeline, the Iron Horde.
Dire orcs are created by Bleeding Hollow clan rituals.
The Burning CrusadeEdit
A fel dire orc named Gurtogg Bloodfist was created by the Burning Legion-aligned Bleeding Hollow clan. He resides in the Black Temple and attempted to stop adventurers - both Alliance and Horde alike. Gurtogg is eventually killed during the attack.
An orc by the name of Korm Bonegrind participates in the Battle of Gilneas. He is aboard the Horde gunship and aids fellow orc grunts in fighting the Alliance. He appears to be the mechanic. The Alliance end up defeating the Horde gunship crew and the gunship crashes down.
In Mount Hyjal, an orc named Raz Skullcrusher aids adventurers in their quests and is the bodyguard of gnome Finkle Einhorn. He eventually transforms into a dire orc by the Twilight's Hammer. He is slayed by an earth ascendant, before he can be saved.
Lava Guard Gordoth serves the Twilight's Hammer in Ragefire Chasm, beneath Orgrimmar. He was a former cultist, who attempted to recreate the ascendant form. However, this ended bad for him and he ultimately became a fel dire orc. Adventurers kill him once they venture through Ragefire Chasm.
Mists of PandariaEdit
After Garrosh Hellscream discovered Y'Shaarj, an Old God's powers, a few orcs in his inner circle transformed into dire orcs. The most notable, Malkorok, head of the Kor'kron Guard became a dire orc, which enhanced his strength. During the Siege of Orgrimmar, Malkorok is killed.
Warlords of DraenorEdit
Ariok, the son of Eitrigg is attacked by numerous Bleeding Hollow clan members affiliated with the Iron Horde. He takes the front line in the ensuing battle, protecting Alliance and Horde adventurers. The spell is casted on Ariok and he disappears in the horde of orcs, his fate unknown.
In the alternate universe, the Bleeding Hollow clan used their blood in a spell and created dire orcs. They make up a bulk of the Iron Horde army, serving as berserkers and brutes. It should be noted that most of the dire orcs are Blackrock clan members.
The pale orcs also have dire orcs in their ranks, serving the same purpose.
Dire orcs are monstrous, mutated orcs. Due to the wide variety of orc clans and skin colors, their appearances are drastic. Their skin colors include green, yellow-green, red (fel), gray, gray-purple and pale gray/white.
- Dire orcs are very similar to dire trolls, both appearance-wise and class-wise.
